Sunshine: 4 rules of safe and beautiful suntan

A tan can cost you good well-being and even health if you approach the issue without knowledge.

A tan gives a fresh appearance, replenishes vitamin D in the body and simply gives a great mood. The downside is that the sun rays can cause a lot of trouble to your skin. Therefore, it is very important to follow a number of rules and do not expose your body to unnecessary stress. In this article you will find tips on how to make the process of sunbathing as safe and effective as possible.

A little bit of theory

Suntan is the natural reaction of the skin to sunlight. Melanin plays an active role in it: it is the pigment that starts to be produced in the body at the first contact with ultraviolet. The more melanin a person has, the more likely it is that their suntan will be intense, dark. If the pigment is low, the risk of getting burned automatically increases. Thus, dark-skinned people sunbathe faster and rarely have sunburns. While light-skinned blondes and redheads are more likely to suffer from redness after being on the beach and not immediately acquire the desired golden skin tone. The latter must be especially careful to follow the rules in the sun, to protect themselves with sunscreen, clothing made of natural fabrics and hats.

Sunshine and safety

Is it even worth going to the sea, if the sun poses such a threat? Is there any benefit from such a rest?

Of course, the right and safe stay in the sun has a beneficial effect on the body, because it is thanks to the sun rays that vital vitamin D in the body is synthesized – it is the basis of our immunity. It promotes the absorption of useful minerals: calcium, phosphorus and other important substances. Without the sun, the body will suffer from a lack of strength and energy, which can eventually lead to depression. Have you ever noticed how the skin appearance improves when it gets a golden hue? Compliance with safety regulations will help protect you from the development of a variety of dermatological problems, including malignancies.

How to prepare your skin for the beach season?

If you want your skin to be armed before sunbathing and to thank you for a beautiful tan, you should prepare for it in advance.

Recommendation 1. Exercise

Have a tan on your balcony or summer cottage before going out to the beach. It will help to ‘wake up’ your skin a little before an active beach season.

Recommendation 2. Food

Meals will help you get a nice tan and not get burned. Add to your diet freshly squeezed carrot juice, apricots, spinach (vitamin A), eat meat, broccoli and tomatoes (vitamin B), do not ignore vegetable oils, nuts, beans (vitamin E), fish seafood (vitamin D), cheese, milk, eggs, carrots, potatoes, parsley (vitamin PP). A balanced diet, rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, will improve the quality of your tan. At the same time, alcoholic beverages, plenty of sweets and heavy spicy, smoked food will make it more difficult for the body to function, resulting in slower melanin production and increased probability of getting a sunburn.

If you start taking beta-carotene in capsules 2 weeks before the insolation, you will get a nice tan.

Recommendation 3. Peeling and skin moisturizing

About a couple of weeks before departure you can start preparing your skin for sunbathing. Use a gentle scrub or peel once every 3-4 days to cleanse your skin – this measure will give you a smoother tan. During the rest period, it is best to cancel any treatments that traumatize the epidermis. You’d better bring moisturizing and soothing creams and lotions.

At this time it is also better not to make salon peelings with acids. From mid-March to October, as long as there is a large amount of sun, they are contraindicated. Before your trip it will be useful to moisturize your skin with hyaluronic acid products, but remember that 2 weeks before the insolation you should exclude all injection procedures.

Recommendation 4. Remember to epilate

When it comes to removing unwanted hair, you can safely use the way you are used to. If you use a razor, be sure to put it in your suitcase – you’ll probably need it more than once during your holiday. And shugaring, waxing or laser hair removal will allow you to forget about unwanted hair for at least 2-3 weeks.

How to behave on vacation:

  • Tan in the morning and evening, before 12 p.m. and after 5 p.m. so as not to get sunburned.
  • Use sunscreen whenever you leave the room: at the beach, on walks, on sightseeing tours.
  • If you have light skin, use sunscreen with a high degree of protection. This also applies to those who have many moles on their bodies.
  • If you have dark skin, you can reduce your SPF to 20-30 days.
  • Remember to refresh your cream every 2-3 hours and after your bath.
  • Rinse off salt water under a shower with fresh water, otherwise you risk getting burns through the crystallised salt on your skin.
  • After being in the sun, the skin needs to be moisturized. Leaders in effectiveness – gels with aloe vera and dexspanthenol.

And don’t forget: you risk getting sunburned if you spend a lot of time in the sun on the first day. Especially take care of the nose, shoulders, chest, as they are most exposed to sunburning.
